This work is a functional, habitable sculpture. Like a mobile hotel room, it offers a degree of basic comfort: with a mattress, sheets, bedcovers, night-lights and plug sockets. Built out of fibre- glass, this housing unit recalls the minimalism of the famous Soft Edge Furniture of the 1990s. The shelter, which is the width of a double bed and resembles a safe, is both reassuring and unsettling, a reminder of the distinctive Japanese capsule hotels which optimise space by offering their guests a simple bed-cabin.
