Blair Thurman’s new three-dimensional work, made from boned buggies topped with a parasol, is more specifically reminiscent of junk sculpture (the creations of Ed Kienholz or Robert Rauschenberg, for example). It reminds us about the aesthetics of punk under- ground trash; the loner as Silver Surfer confronting the Post Punk existential. The artist’s influences range from pop art to minima- lism, popular music, 70’s cinema and his childhood memories. Standardized figures from small race car tracks, architectural settings and compositions from everyday life take on a nostalgic quality.
