Cloud Cities is an architectural utopia created by Tomás Saraceno to find a solution for over-population and environmental des- truction. Inspired by Frankfurt’s eponymous Airport City, this work is a constellation of imposing, interconnected modules. It invites the viewer to enter and move around in this geometri- cally complex space – a union of architecture, art, and science. This prototype of a floating city imagined as a cluster of cells alludes to Buckminster Fuller’s utopist architecture, and in particular to his levitating sphere project, Cloud Nine.
