The work of Angela Bulloch (b. 1966, Rainy River, Ontario, Canada) encompasses many media, demonstrating her interest in systems and the creative space between mathematics and aesthetics. Conceived to be installed indoors or outdoors, the sculptures in the Heavy Metal Stack series consist of modular elements in painted stainless steel. The surface of the vertically assem- bled rhomboidal shapes is painted in three distinct colors, creating an optical illusion that gives the works quasi-abstract qualities, oscillating between two and three dimensions.
