The work of Angela Bulloch (b. 1966, Rainy River, Ontario, Canada) takes form in many various media, demonstrating her interest in systems and the creative space between mathematics and aesthetics. Conceived for indoors or outdoors, the sculptures in the Heavy Metal Stack series consist of modular elements in painted stainless steel. The surfaces of the vertically assembled rhomboidal shapes are painted in two or three distinct colors. An optical illu- sion oscillating between two and three dimensions is created with the flat planes of color intensifying the works’ abstract qualities.
